Some info about the project.
Client: Green Valley High School
Date Completed: 2007 Conceptual Design; Programming Completed 2017
This proposed 11,000 sf building is greatly needed to ensure the continuing success of the Green Valley High School music department and therefore, was approached with care and consideration for their learning environment.
The design concept began with a study of the surrounding natural elements. The faceted form of a rock and the space it creates not only as a solid, but also as a void when placed with other rocks, was inspiration for the spatial organization. The building is comprised of three distinct spaces (rocks), connected through the circulation and gathering spaces (voids) for the students. This inspiration lends itself well to the acoustical aspects required for the optimal design of all the music rooms. Careful consideration was given to the orientation of the building to minimize heat gain and allow for maximum use of the outdoor spaces. The design for the new music building combines all these elements and influences with the programmatic requirements to create a functional, unique, and inspiring learning environment.
In 2016, CCSD contracted Aptus to once again approach this project, move forward with programming, and improve upon the original schematic design.
