Some info about the project.
Client: Salvation Army
Date Completed: Phase 1 2015, Phase 2 awaiting construction
The Salvation Army has developed a Music Academy program for their community locations to provide music education to augment programs no longer available in public schools. The program offers music classes for school youth with professional grade recording facilities. The proposed Academy at the Torrance location includes a complete renovation of an existing classroom building for the Education Wing and construction a new addition housing the recording studios on the lower level and extension of the existing church on the upper level. The addition will increase the seating capacity to 425 seats and expand the stage area. Connecting the Education Wing and the new addition is a 2 story Connector building housing the Academy reception area on the lower level and an upper level balcony with a full service coffee bar with barista for parents and visitors. The design incorporates double height glazing with access to the Academy forecourt, dynamic roof forms and juxtaposed materials and finishes.
