The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, College of Engineering Robotics Laboratory was located in a converted furniture store. Upgrades to this temporary arrangement was necessary once it was selected as the permanent location.
The updated 13,243 sf facility includes a new stucco facade added to the bare exterior entrance, and a vestibule and reception area were added. A portion of the existing storage was converted into new workshops for the construction of robots as well as an upgrade to the entire electrical and lighting system. A new lounge and kitchenette was also added for the use of staff and students. The primary challenge for the project was to work with the constraints of the existing building and minimize the disruption to the existing occupants who will continue to use the space during construction.
