UNLV Heart of Campus
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas seeks to transform a parking lot into an active, multi-use plaza space at the center of the campus. The project offers a new sense of place and campus identity for students, faculty, alumni and the community. At the same time, the plaza needs become a passageway providing students quick access to their next class, becoming both a destination and a corridor. Working with Design Workshop, a leader in landscape design, the new Heart of Campus plaza will be a space where all people can coexist. The design includes a new campus arrival where visitors can express their UNLV pride, covered pavilions to sit casually in the shade between class, read or meet with a study group, one larger pavilion that can double as an impromptu stage, an artificial lawn, two large plazas for small or large events and a series of more intimate spaces for individuals to rest or reflect.
