Preferred era in architecture:

The 1920s because of the details produced by the predominate styles of the time. From the curves and colors celebrated by the Arc Deco movement to the clean lines and simplicity of the Prairie style. This era is a goldmine of inspiration. I love playing around with these styles, either individually or by mixing and matching them in my own way to create something new.

Preferred music style:

Indie/folk and alternative rock

In another life I’m pretty sure I was:

A historian

My guilty pleasure is:

Top Chef and chocolate

Why Aptus?

I was drawn to Aptus because of the diversity of projects, the human-centered approach to design and the overall culture. Our projects are truly collaborative and we’re here to support each other which makes for more well-rounded and thoughtful design.

Why I chose architecture:

I come from a long line of contractors and carpenters. So, I grew up around construction and design. I wanted to create the way I watched my family creating, but I quickly realized that I was better suited for the creative aspects of design, rather than the actual building of things.

Earliest architectural memory:

I have early memories of watching my grandfather finish out kitchens as a contractor, while I watched from the upper cabinets. I got to watch him build structures from the ground up and to this day, as I drive around Chicago, I can point them out and say, “hey my grandpa built that!” and I think that’s so cool.
